Project file N°10

TG Tercüman — Telegram Chat Translator

A server that sits on a Telegram account and translates chats both ways, plus an Android app to read and reply from. Incoming messages arrive in Turkish; replies go out in the other person's language.

Stack

  • Telegram API
  • DeepL
  • Claude API
  • Google Translate
  • VPS
  • Vue 3
  • Capacitor

The problem

Talking with people in English or Korean on Telegram meant copying every message into a translator and back. A first version was a single Python script; it worked, but only from a computer and with prefixes typed by hand.

What we built

  1. 01A backend on a VPS that listens to the account and translates each incoming message
  2. 02Per-chat target language (for example English or Korean) for outgoing replies
  3. 03Translation engine selectable in the app — DeepL by default, Claude or Google as alternatives — with the keys kept on the server
  4. 04An Android app built with Vue 3 and Capacitor to read translated chats, tap to see the original, and reply in Turkish

Outcome

  • —Chats in other languages read and answered from the phone without leaving the conversation
